Fall is quickly approaching but as we all know, the weather doesn’t cool down here in Northwest Florida until later in the year. But before it gets too cold, it’s a great idea to start on your Fall Lawn Care and Landscaping checklist so you can be ready and prepared.
What to Plant
- Remove/prune annual plants and install fall plants that can handle the cooler temperatures
- Sow seeds for carrots, cucumbers, onions, garlic (bulb), radish, squashes, and turnips
What to Do
- Lawn – check for insects that are still active such as mole crickets and mow as needed as your grass will grow more slowly. When the days get cooler, this is a perfect time to focus on tackling unwanted weeds and add grass seed where needed
- Irrigation – make sure that the sprinkler system is still working properly and providing enough water to all parts of your lawn before the summer rainy season ends
- Citrus – fertilize citrus trees either in September or October. Do not use soluble nitrogen if the weather has been rainy as it will wash away and be removed from the soil too quickly
