The first day of fall is quickly approaching so we wanted to recommend some plants to incorporate into your fall landscape that will add nice pops of color and be easy to maintain.
1. Mums (Chrysanthemums)
Mums are a crowd favorite because they bloom for weeks and still offer that last bit of color in your landscape before everything dies in the cooler months. They are also perfect because they can be planted or kept as a potted plant on your porch or walkway.
Mums can come in two types: florist mums (annuals) or hardy mums (perennials). Florist mums are the type they sell in pots at the grocery store because they can be gifted or placed on your front porch but they won’t last during the colder months. Hardy mums are the kind that you can plant and will survive better in the winter and they will come back each year.
2. Crotons
Crotons are the perfect fall foliage plant to add to your landscape because they come in a variety of reds, oranges, yellows, and greens. They thrive in indirect sunlight and love moist soil.
They can be a good plant to border your garden or walkways or they can have their own spot in the yard.
3. Marigolds
These flowers provide a bright pop of color and add a nice fragrance to your home. Marigolds are also pollinator friendly so it helps bees and butterflies in the last days of the season before it gets cold.
Marigolds also attract ladybugs and other bugs that eat common pests like aphids.
4. Beautyberry
Beautyberry requires light shade and is a nice shrub to add to your collection because it is a perennial and it can handle the colder temperatures. They also attract birds and butterflies in the warmer months.
These plants are great additions to your Florida landscape during the fall months and here at Coastal Property Maintenance, we are happy to plan out a new landscape with you as well as maintain your existing landscaping.
